The lower Deschutes is running 3,860 CFS with clear water at 59.7°F — the Salmonfly hatch front is pushing actively through the Maupin canyon right now, with Golden Stoneflies overlapping for an exceptional big-dry-fly window. Deschutes River Fishing Report — Caddis Madness & Falling Flows | June 5, 2026
Flows on the lower Deschutes are dropping to 3,860 cfs and the caddis hatch is absolutely insane — this is the week to be on the water near Maupin. Water temps hit a prime 58.8°F with clear conditions and great PMD and PED activity rounding out the evening fishing.

The Crooked River tailwater is running high at 1,280 CFS due to elevated Bowman Dam irrigation releases — wading is not safe and water clarity is off-color. Fish the slack edges and deep eddies with a Woolly Bugger, Copper John, or Zebra Midge for the best action; the upper section near the dam offers the cleanest water and best fly fishing.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – June 4, 2026: Golden Stones & PMDs Take Center Stage
The lower Deschutes is fishing beautifully at 3,860 CFS and 59.7°F — Golden Stoneflies and PMDs are driving excellent dry-fly action in the Maupin canyon. Float the river or work the banks with a Chubby Chernobyl or Stimulator, and drop a Pheasant Tail or Copper John for non-stop nymph action between hatches.

The lower Deschutes is running at 4,030 CFS and 60°F — elevated but very fishable with prime June caddis hatches firing hard. Expect slightly off-color main channel water with clean edges; Elk Hair Caddis and Stimulators are the flies of the moment above and below Sherars Falls.

The Crooked River below Bowman Dam is running at 1,260 cfs due to heavy irrigation releases — well above typical fishing flows. Wading is not recommended, but fish are still catchable in slack water and back-eddies with Zebra Midges, Pheasant Tail Nymphs, and small Woolly Buggers. Water temp is a cool 55°F.

The Crooked River tailwater below Bowman Dam is running high at 1,240 CFS due to heavy irrigation releases — conditions are tough with turbid water and dangerous wading. Water temp is 55°F. Focus on nymphing the inside bends with Pheasant Tails, Zebra Midges, and Copper Johns; streamer fishing with a Woolly Bugger is your best bet for covering water safely from the bank.
Deschutes River Fishing Report — May 31, 2026: Salmonfly Peak at Maupin, Elevated Flows
The Salmonfly hatch is at full peak from Trout Creek through Maupin — the best dry-fly event of the year on the lower Deschutes. Flows are 4,380 CFS at Moody with water temps at a prime 56°F. A flood watch is in effect through the weekend; wade carefully and fish the banks hard with Chubby Chernobyls and Stimulators.

The Crooked River tailwater is in solid nymphing shape — flows running ~235 CFS below Bowman Dam with crystal-clear 55°F water. The Mother's Day Caddis has tapered off, but Zebra Midges, Copper Johns, and Woolly Buggers are moving fish consistently. PMDs are just beginning to emerge in the afternoons.
