Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 26, 2026: Fall BWOs, October Caddis & Early Steelhead
The lower Deschutes is running 4,590 cfs with crystal-clear 58°F water — prime conditions for fall BWO hatches and early steelhead. October Caddis are beginning to show in the afternoons, and steelhead are stacking in the classic runs at Maupin, Locked Gate, and Mack's Canyon.
Crooked River Fishing Report – September 25, 2026: BWOs Rising & October Caddis Arriving
The Crooked River tailwater below Bowman Dam is delivering prime fall conditions — crystal clear 55°F water at low flows (~100–120 cfs) with wild redband rainbows feeding confidently on BWO hatches from mid-morning through early afternoon. October Caddis are beginning to appear in the bankside vegetation, and technical dry-fly fishing with Parachute Adams and Zebra Midges is outstanding throughout the canyon near Terrebonne and Crooked River Ranch.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 25, 2026: Prime Fall Steelhead Season
The lower Deschutes is locked in for prime fall steelhead season with stable flows of 4,590 cfs and crystal-clear 59°F water. October Caddis are beginning to emerge in the bankside vegetation, BWOs are hatching in today's overcast morning windows, and the canyon runs from Maupin to Mack's Canyon are loaded with opportunity. Note a Wind Advisory in effect through 11 PM PDT tonight.
Crooked River Fishing Report – September 24, 2026: Elevated Flows, Midges & BWOs Producing in Soft Water
The Crooked River below Bowman Dam is running at elevated 1,280 cfs as irrigation-season releases wind down — clarity is off-color but water temp is a productive 55°F and fish are actively feeding in seams, back-eddies, and soft bankside runs. Heavy nymph rigs with Copper John and Pheasant Tail are your best bet; expect flows to drop significantly within 1–3 weeks for ideal conditions.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 24, 2026: BWOs, October Caddis & Fall Steelhead Prime Time
The lower Deschutes is fishing beautifully at 4,560 cfs with 59°F water — BWO and Mahogany Dun hatches are prime right now, October Caddis are just beginning to show, and wild steelhead are staging throughout the canyon. Dry-dropper rigs with a Chubby Chernobyl over a Pheasant Tail are producing consistent redside action through the Maupin corridor.
Crooked River Fishing Report — September 23, 2026 | Mahogany Duns & Midges Firing on the Wild & Scenic
The Crooked River's Wild and Scenic reach is firing on all cylinders with crystal-clear water at 55°F and mahogany duns emerging mid-morning. Wild redband rainbows are rising to Parachute Adams, and Zebra Midges on a dropper rig are producing fish throughout the day — excellent conditions for fall fly fishing near Terrebonne.

The lower Deschutes is fishing well with 4,560 cfs at Moody and water temps at 59.5°F — prime conditions for fall steelhead and dry fly trout action. Evening caddis hatches are building, mahogany duns are emerging mid-morning, and steelhead are stacking in canyon tailouts throughout the Maupin reach.
Crooked River Fishing Report – September 22, 2026: Elevated Flows, Mahogany Duns Emerging
The Crooked River is running elevated at 1,280 cfs with off-color water, but trout are still feeding actively at 55°F. Target back eddies and slower seams with Zebra Midges and Pheasant Tail Nymphs; Mahogany Dun hatches are beginning mid-day for dry fly opportunities.

The lower Deschutes is running at 4,530 cfs and 61°F — prime fall conditions with October Caddis beginning to show and steelhead arriving in the Maupin corridor. Swing Woolly Buggers and Stimulators for steelhead, or match the emerging caddis and BWO hatches for aggressive redside rainbows.
Crooked River Fishing Report – September 21, 2026: Elevated Flows, Midges & Nymphs Still Producing
The Crooked River is running elevated at 1,310 cfs (USGS gauge below Opal Springs) with excellent 55°F water temperatures. Flows are above seasonal norms but the spring-fed tailwater is keeping clarity fishable — focus on protected edges and eddies with Zebra Midges and Pheasant Tail Nymphs for the best results today.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 21, 2026: Steelhead Season at Its Peak
The Lower Deschutes is fishing well this week with flows at 4,500 cfs (Moody gauge) and water temps holding at 61°F. September is the best month for steelhead on the lower D — swing Woolly Buggers through the classic runs at first light, and watch for Blue-Winged Olive hatches on overcast afternoons.

The Crooked River below Bowman Dam is delivering exceptional dry fly fishing in September with 55°F crystal-clear water. BWOs and PMDs are hatching mid-morning, caddis mid-day, and early October Caddis are beginning to show. Outstanding technical fishing for Central Oregon rainbows.

The lower Deschutes is fishing well at 4,530 cfs and 61°F with crystal-clear water. Heavy evening caddis hatches (5–8 PM) and active mid-day BWOs are the story right now, with early October Caddis beginning to emerge. Both redband trout and fall-run steelhead are in the mix.
