The Crooked River tailwater is in prime shape with gin-clear water at 54.9°F and flows of ~140–175 CFS in the prime fishing section. September Mahogany Dun hatches are kicking off alongside consistent caddis, BWOs, and midges — a classic fall day on this wild redband canyon.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 18, 2026: Fall Caddis, October Caddis & Prime Steelhead Season
The lower Deschutes is fishing beautifully today with 4,440 CFS of clear water at 59.5°F. Fall caddis and October Caddis hatches are starting while steelhead are stacking in the classic Maupin runs — one of the best all-around windows of the year.
Crooked River Fishing Report – September 17, 2026
Crooked River flows have spiked dramatically to 1,340 CFS (up from 142 CFS on Sept 11), creating off-color, hazardous wading conditions. Bank fishing with Copper Johns and Zebra Midges tight to structure is your best bet; watch for the Mahogany Dun hatch to pop as flows drop in coming days.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 17, 2026
The lower Deschutes is fishing beautifully with 4,440 CFS of clear water and 60°F temps. BWO hatches are firing midday, evening caddis action is exceptional, and September steelhead are moving through below Sherars Falls. Grab your Elk Hair Caddis and Woolly Bugger — this is peak season.
Crooked River Fishing Report – September 16, 2026
The Crooked River is fishing excellently below Bowman Dam with crystal-clear water at 55°F — ideal fall conditions. PMDs are winding down while Blue-Winged Olives ramp up for prime afternoon dry fly action. Zebra Midges and Pheasant Tail Nymphs are the workhorses of any rig, with a Parachute Adams ready for the afternoon rise.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 16, 2026
The lower Deschutes is running clear at 4,140 CFS and 60°F — excellent conditions for September caddis hatches and the leading edge of the fall steelhead push. Elk Hair Caddis and Stimulators are the top evening dries through the Maupin corridor, while Woolly Buggers swung through classic runs are connecting with fresh, chrome-bright steelhead.
Crooked River Fishing Report – September 15, 2026: Prime Dry Fly Action Below Bowman Dam
The Crooked River below Bowman Dam is in prime condition for fall fly fishing — clear water at 55°F with active PMD, caddis, and BWO hatches throughout the day. Mahogany Duns are beginning to appear, and the redband trout are hungry. Excellent dry fly and nymph fishing from Lone Pine Road to the Terrebonne area.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 15, 2026: Fall Steelhead & Heavy Caddis
The Deschutes is running at 4,200 cfs and 59°F with prime fall conditions — heavy BWO hatches midday (10 AM–2 PM) and a banner October Caddis emergence in the evenings. Steelhead are on the move and trout are active all day from the Heritage Flats to Mack's Canyon.

Deschutes River Fishing Report — September 14, 2026: Steelhead Season Peaks, Excellent Conditions
Peak steelhead season has arrived on the lower Deschutes with 4,200 CFS of clear, 58°F water. Both hatchery and wild fish are on the move from Warm Springs to Mack's Canyon, with excellent dry fly fishing for resident redbands and heavy evening caddis hatches in full swing.

The Crooked River tailwater is running elevated at 1,310 cfs today — wading caution is advised — but cold 55°F water temps keep this tailwater fishery in play. Focus on inside seams and slower bank water with Zebra Midges, Copper Johns, and Pheasant Tail Nymphs.
Crooked River Fishing Report: September 12, 2026 — PMDs, Caddis & Stellar Dry Fly Action
The Crooked River below Bowman Dam is firing on all cylinders — 55°F crystal-clear water, PMD mornings, black caddis at midday, and BWOs in the afternoon. Local guides are reporting outstanding days with fish rising throughout the day. Zebra Midges, Elk Hair Caddis, and Pheasant Tail Nymphs are the top patterns right now.
Lower Deschutes Fishing Report: September 12, 2026 — Fall Trout Season Heats Up
The Lower Deschutes is in excellent shape for fall trout fishing — 4,290 CFS and 61°F with PMD spinners, early October Caddis arrivals, and evening BWOs keeping fish looking up. Elk Hair Caddis, Chubby Chernobyl, and Pheasant Tail Nymphs are top producers. Note: steelhead season remains closed per ODFW's August 15 closure.
