The lower Deschutes is fishing excellently for trout with flows at 4,090 CFS and water temps at 60°F. October Caddis, BWOs, and small caddis are all active with minimal pressure following the steelhead closure. Chubby Chernobyls, Parachute Adams, and Elk Hair Caddis are all producing.

Deschutes River Fishing Report – October 1, 2026: Steelhead Running Strong, October Caddis in Full Swing
The lower Deschutes is fishing beautifully today with flows at a moderate 4,060 cfs and 61°F water. Summer steelhead are running strong through the Maupin reach, and the October Caddis hatch has kicked off in full force — this is prime fall fishing season on the Deschutes.
Deschutes River Fishing Report – September 30, 2026
The Deschutes is running at 4,060 CFS and a prime 59.7°F — excellent fall conditions with B-run steelhead moving through below Sherars Falls and wild redband trout rising to BWOs and early October Caddis above. Slightly off-color water pushes fish tight to the banks; lead with Elk Hair Caddis, Stimulator, and Woolly Bugger.
Deschutes River Fishing Report — September 29, 2026: Fall Steelhead & Prime BWO Action
Fall steelhead are pushing through the lower Deschutes canyon as Blue-Winged Olive hatches peak from 10 AM–2 PM. Water is clear at 57°F with 4,260 cfs at Moody — prime time to swing a Woolly Bugger for steelhead or match the BWO hatch with a Parachute Adams.

The lower Deschutes is fishing well with 4,410 cfs at Moody and crystal-clear water at 56°F — perfect conditions for BWO dry fly action and B-run steelhead. October Caddis are beginning to show in the evenings, and a Parachute Adams or Chubby Chernobyl fished through the classic Maupin runs should produce.

October Caddis are beginning to emerge in the bankside vegetation, BWOs are hatching in today's overcast morning windows, and the canyon runs from Maupin to Mack's Canyon are loaded with opportunity. The lower Deschutes is fishing beautifully at 4,560 cfs with 59°F water — BWO and Mahogany Dun hatches are prime right now, October Caddis are just beginning to show, and wild steelhead are staging throughout the canyon. Dry-dropper rigs with a Chubby Chernobyl over a Pheasant Tail are producing consistent redside action through the Maupin corridor.

The lower Deschutes is fishing well with 4,560 cfs at Moody and water temps at 59.5°F — prime conditions for fall steelhead and dry fly trout action. Evening caddis hatches are building, mahogany duns are emerging mid-morning, and steelhead are stacking in canyon tailouts throughout the Maupin reach.

The Lower Deschutes is fishing well this week with flows at 4,500 cfs (Moody gauge) and water temps holding at 61°F. September is the best month for steelhead on the lower D — swing Woolly Buggers through the classic runs at first light, and watch for Blue-Winged Olive hatches on overcast afternoons.

The lower Deschutes is fishing well at 4,530 cfs and 61°F with crystal-clear water. Heavy evening caddis hatches (5–8 PM) and active mid-day BWOs are the story right now, with early October Caddis beginning to emerge. Both redband trout and fall-run steelhead are in the mix.
